A quiet place to solve one grid a day

1geplay is a puzzle site for the gaps in your day — a shift break, a few minutes of waiting, the ten quiet minutes before bed. Nothing here buzzes at you or counts down to make you stay. If something comes up, close the tab; the grid will still be there when you come back.

Right now 1geplay publishes one daily killer sudoku. Every puzzle is generated from your device's local date, so refreshing the page during the day gives you the same grid, and a new one is waiting when the date changes. Each puzzle follows the sudoku and cage rules and has exactly one solution. You don't need an account — your board and your records stay in the browser you're using.

Killer Sudoku Rules: One Solution, Plus Cage Totals

Killer sudoku doesn't ask you to do hard maths. You're still hunting for the single number that fits a cell — but alongside rows, columns and 3×3 boxes, you get a set of totals that lets you cross-check one group of cells against another.

  1. 01

    Fill every row with 1–9

Across each row, all nine digits must appear exactly once.

  2. 02

No repeats in columns or boxes

The same rule applies down each column and inside every 3×3 box.

  3. 03

    Make each cage add up

Cells joined by a dashed outline form a cage. The numbers inside a cage must add up to the small number in its top-left corner, and no digit may repeat within a cage.

  4. 04

Use notes to narrow the candidates

Turn on Notes to pencil possible digits into a cell. Check highlights a conflict or a wrong entry, and Hint fills in one correct cell for you.

  5. 05

    Fill all 81 cells

When every cell is correct, today's puzzle is finished. Your time and your daily streak are stored on this device.

Cage Combinations and the Rule of 45

Cage combinations are the fixed sets of digits that can make a given total. A two-cell cage totalling 17 can only be 8+9; a three-cell cage totalling 7 can only be 1+2+4. Knowing these by sight removes most of the guessing from the opening minutes.

The rule of 45 works from the other direction: each row, column and box holds 1–9, so every one of them sums to 45. If the cages inside a box total 39 and one cell in that box sits outside them all, that cell has to be 45 − 39 = 6.

Remember that a combination is not a placement. Knowing a cage must be 1+2+4 tells you which three numbers go in it — not which cell gets which. Use the row and column rules to decide the order.

Killer Sudoku Tips for Your First Grid

  • Start with the smallest cages. A cage of two or three cells has far fewer combinations than a five-cell cage, so the candidates collapse quickly.
  • Scan for extreme totals. Very low and very high cage totals narrow themselves. Cross-check them against the row, column and box they sit in.
  • Drop to notes only when you're stuck. Filling obvious cells first keeps the board readable.
  • Then use Check, not Hint. Check shows you the contradiction you missed; Hint costs you a cell you could have solved.
  • Keyboard is faster. 1–9 enters a digit, arrow keys move, N toggles Notes, and Delete or Backspace clears a cell.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the small number in the corner of a cage?

It's the total for that cage. The cells inside the dashed outline must add up to it, and no digit may repeat within that cage.

Does everyone see the same puzzle each day?

The puzzle is generated from your device's local date. On the same date setting you'll see the same grid as everyone else; cross into a new day and a fresh puzzle appears.

Do I lose my progress if I close the page?

Normally no. The board is saved automatically to your browser's local storage. Private browsing, clearing site data or switching browsers will not carry it over.

Can I sync between my phone and my computer?

There's no account and no cloud sync at the moment. That keeps the amount of personal data collected to a minimum, but it does mean each device keeps its own progress and records.

What should I do when I get stuck?

Pencil candidates with Notes, then use Check to find the contradiction you're stuck on. If you still can't move forward, Hint will fill in one correct cell. Restart clears the board entirely.

Do I have to use a mouse or touchscreen?

No. On a keyboard, use 1–9 to enter digits, the arrow keys to move, N to toggle Notes, and Delete or Backspace to clear the current cell.

Is it free? Does it need an account?

Yes, free — and no account is required. Any advertising is kept separate from the game controls.
