DAILY / READ LEFT → RIGHT

Select one word, then another to swap their positions.

Swap two words at a time. Read left to right, from the top row to the bottom.

FIELD NOTE / 01

Practise English word order, one swap at a time.

Each puzzle gives you nine English words. Look for the subject, verb, articles and connecting words, then arrange them into the intended sentence. After the daily puzzle, continue through five practice levels and a bank of 120 original sentences.

  1. 01Find the subject and verb

Who does what? Start with that structure before adding the other words.

  2. 02Look for connecting words

When, before, with and without help show how phrases fit together.

  3. 03Read the whole sentence

Read aloud if you like. Check that the meaning and the word order both make sense.

FOR CLASS OR HOME / 02

A short word-order warm-up.

Teachers can use the shared daily sentence on a classroom screen: ask learners to identify the subject and verb before choosing a swap. At home, take turns explaining why two words belong together. The same game also works for independent ESL practice.

No sign-up or worksheet download is needed. The five levels describe the game’s sentence structures; they are not CEFR ratings, grades or an assessment of English proficiency.

About the sentence scramble game

Does everyone get the same daily sentence?

Players using the same local date get the same daily sentence. Open or reload the page on a new date for the next puzzle. The practice bank contains 120 original nine-word sentences.

Can I play more than once a day?

Yes. Finish the daily sentence and choose Next sentence. Practice starts at Starter and progresses through Basic, Tricky, Hard and Expert; you can continue at Expert after that.

Are these movie quotes or famous sayings?

No. The puzzles use original short sentences written for this game, rather than quotations from films or books.

Where are my progress and results stored?

The word order, hints, checks and completion state are saved in this browser’s localStorage. They are not uploaded as game records or synced to another device. No account is needed.

Why does Check reject another grammatical order?

Each puzzle checks one intended sentence, not every possible English sentence. Another arrangement may also be grammatical. Use a hint to work towards the target sentence, and discuss alternative meanings during classroom practice.

Is the game silent?

Yes. A correct answer has a brief visual animation, with no sound effects or music.
